A New Family

So, there’s this party tomorrow…

Any parent knows the one great truth about being a mom or dad: If your kid is happy, you are happy. And right now, Laura and I are overjoyed. 

From the minute Isabelle became part of Max’s life, it was like a switch was flipped. It was like a glass of cool water — Max’s favorite drink, by the way — was finally filled to the very top.

Weddings are a big deal. Not only because two people have come together to build a life, but because they bring two families together. 

Families can be an adventure, right? It’s a journey. Isabelle came into Max’s life, and then into ours. And then to our sheer delight we got to know Joe and Cathie. The bonus of this whole thing for Laura and me is the joy of us being a part of each other’s lives.

The next thing you know the journey takes us to Cinderella’s castle and Max is down on one knee. And then snap your fingers … and we’re here. 

Tomorrow it becomes official … but tonight … tonight is like Christmas Eve when you were a kid. Excited. Nervous. Eyeing up the presents under the tree. Sharing the evening with the people who mean the most to you. 

So here’s to Max and Isabelle. To the young children they once were (and will always be to their parents). To the man and woman they have become. To the incredible future they will build. And to the new family their love has created.
