This is the way to kick-off summer: A couple of friends spending a glorious Friday afternoon being treated to a gourmet lunch by my long-time compatriot, “The Small Town Chef,” Wayne Persing. Wayne, John and I were video production comrades back in another life, and we’ll get together and have lunch somewhere every now and then. When Wayne suggested he whip up lunch for John and me, there was no chance we’d say no. That’s because now that Wayne’s retired, he’s devoting his time to his lifelong love of cooking. Good choice, Wayne.
Seriously. Please check out his website, thesmalltownchef.com, and try his recipes. You will not be disappointed.
Lunch was a taste sensation: Scallops Veracruz and Mediterranean Shrimp Flatbread. We had bread and wine as I shot video of the master chef at work and then ate outside on his covered deck in near-perfect weather, talked about the old days and about enjoying life. Funny how those conversations are always better when there’s great food on the table.
Wayne, you are the master. When does your restaurant open?
Wow that was amazing!! Actually made my day. I came to the important conclusion that in comparison, especially in the world of food, my days are very very boring!!!! Thanks for the illumination❤️.
Great! I like the Dicky Betts background music too. I’ll send your link along to Onwyn and Sherry. Sherry keeps sending my recipes and Onwyn sends pictures of her meals. Onwyn and I are in a competition for making sourdough bread. She is winning hands down. 50% of the time mine are big tortillas. They have a good crust thought.
That was an impressive lunch. This is what we all need to get to: a great meal with some friends. Please keep us up to date on Wayne’s cooking and supply his address!
David, please get back to your insightful blog posts. Now that you are retired, I hope you can fill the work void with this type of stuff. I know that, in my case, this is not easy to do.
I loved the video and felt like I could (almost) taste the food! Good friends and good food are a perfect match. Wayne’s recipes are fabulous. My favorite is his Frittata Fiesta. It has secured a place in our dinner rotation (and a sweet spot in my heart). Thank you for sharing the great event. I look forward to trying another recipe. David and I enjoy cooking – he is the Chef and I am the Sous Chef. Always fun and tasty.
