Happy Mother’s Day

(AKA: Hunkered Down, Day 55)

It could be a day to let sadness get to me, especially living in isolation as we all are, but that’s not going to happen. I’d like to say something meaningful and profound, but I don’t know that that is going to happen either.

It’s my first Mother’s Day with out Mom, and I believe I’ll share some photos, find the joy, celebrate the uncountable gifts she gave to me and my family, and give thanks for the remarkable mothers I’ve been lucky enough to know all through my life … especially the one who lives in this house and whom I marvel over every day.

And to all of the incredible moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day.

  • Sending you love and light on this first mothers day without your beloved mother. The photo of her and Leslie touches me deeply. The love between Laura and Max is spectacularly captured in these photos.

    • Thank you for your tender thoughts about Mom and Leslie. And yes, my love for Max shines through the images. Our moms would love this celebration of the day. Love to all.

    • Felicity, on this day I thought of many people. I think of the DeSonne sisters having a reunion with our grandmother Emma. I think of my parents and your parents welcoming Jay to speak volumes of things. I think about how our lives would be a much poorer place without our moms. We need to carry their lessons forward without regard. Happy Mother’s Day to all.

  • The photos and your words have given Mother’s Day an aura of beauty that fills my heart.

  • You picked all my favorite photos! And I feel the same way. We were so lucky, and you ARE so lucky!
    Thanks David!

  • We are all struck by what our moms have given us. Maybe we can repay the debt? Personally, I don’t think so, not even in the countless acts we may do. Each in our own way needs to pay it forward through our children and families. Possibly, in this way, we can tip the balance and be square on this account.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms and the reflection it has brought us.

    • Even if we are never square, it is the act of trying that counts so much. Our Mom would love that David is celebrating his Mom, as well as all of the moms that have touched our lives.
As kids, I would love that Mom would say to us “perseverance is a virtue”. All we have to do is keep on trying.

  • Beautiful! Mother’s Day is great but what makes it extra special is being recognized and appreciated like this! People like you David ! Family! Friends! Celebrations! Tragedies! are handled much better with Moms and the tiniest smile or hug or word is like a diamond to all moms. Thanks again for noticing 🙂
