The Return of Joe Beninski

It is my magnum opus.

I was the Scorsese of Super-8. The David Lean of home movies.

It was 1983. I was young, living in a house with four other knuckleheads, and my share of the rent was next to nothing. I spent my money on food, hockey, beer, and Kodak Super-8 film. If I wasn’t eating, drinking, or playing hockey, I was writing, filming, or editing “The Return of Joe Beninski.”

In the late 80s my brother did a video transfer for me. (1980s = Standard Definition folks.) It languished on 3/4 inch videotape . . . and then QuickTime files for twenty-five years. It wasn’t until 2017 that I finally got to it. I cut out the jumpy edits and re-recorded the music. The only original material that didn’t survive was 2 minutes of dialogue during the party scene. Subtitles will have to do there.

Here it is.
